MOTTO: Investigate Life! Inform Self!

With Gemini rising, you express a “let’s communicate!” type of identity to others when you are feeling supported. When you are not feeling energetically supported, you feel restless and contradictory. Mercury, the planet representing the love of words and communication, is the planet that rules Gemini. With Gemini rising, you come across to others as someone who is friendly, talkative, inquisitive, and easily distracted. This is because of the energetic nature of the Gemini sign.
Gemini is a sign made up of yang, mutable, and air energies. Yang energy gives this sign its active, expressive, and extroverted qualities. The mutable quality diffuses your energetic approach so that you are instinctively flexible and adaptable in your approach to day-to-day life. Change and variety in your everyday life energizes you. The air element rounds out the energy of this sign by adding a desire to express yourself with words and ideas. With this sign rising, you are mentally quick and like to stay well informed. You enjoy communicating with others on a wide variety of intellectual topics and can be quite witty, if a little excitable in your conversations with others. (A Spiritual Approach to Astrology, Gemini section and The Only Astrology Book You’ll Ever Need, p.226)
With this as your rising sign, you approach everything with intellectual curiosity. Your Authentic Self’s personality expression is lively and talkative. Figuratively speaking, the energetic cloak you put on to interact with and meet the demands of the world, is trendy, chic, and youthful. Reflective of your mercurial nature, it is a changing kaleidoscope that varies based on what currently interests you. Like you, it is versatile, able to adapt to current conditions.
With this combo of energies making up your Authentic Self’s personality expression, the image you present to others is someone constantly on the go, busying yourself collecting new information and facts about whatever topic currently interests you and then relaying that information to others. While it is not important to you to know any one subject in great depth, your curious nature demands to find out a little about a lot. With an energy level that is quick and active, you can adapt to new experiences with relative ease. When asked, other people would describe you as being naturally curious, quick witted, friendly, conversant in many subjects, and busy.
The key phrase for Gemini is “I Think.” Having the sign of Gemini on your ascendant, you want to know as much as you can about as many things as you can. You are fascinated with the physical world and want to make sense of its many facets by gathering information about it. It is through your five physical senses that you gather information of all kinds. (Introduction to Evolutionary Astrology). You seek to be well informed about a myriad of subjects and take pleasure in sharing what you have learned with others.
You want others to see you as “intellectually resilient”. You are quick in action, thought and speech. You are a communicator. You like to engage in conversations from a rational, knowledgeable perspective, sharing information you have gathered and learning from these conversations something new. It is important that you feel comfortable and at ease communicating, whether it be verbally or in written form. Although friendly, you prefer not to engage in conversations that are emotionally charged.
The positive traits of the Gemini sign are: friendly, witty, eloquent, versatile, and perceptive. (A Spiritual Approach to Astrology, p.51) You are most likely to express these traits with others when you feel energetically supported.
Because you need variety and mobility, you are not one to sit still with one activity for long periods of time. You need to be able to get up and around and periodically change what you are working on to be content. You would be bored with and feel energetically stifled by an environment where your day-to-day routine was structured, repetitive and predictable.
An energetically supportive environment for you is one that provides you mobility, variety, intellectual stimulation, and opportunities to converse with others. You flourish when there are new situations to experience, new people to get to know, and new facts to learn. (A Spiritual Approach to Astrology, Gemini section)
Feng Shui tips for a supportive environment:
An environment that is mostly yang in nature is supportive of your active, expressive energy. Yang energy supports the way you instinctively approach and act in the outer world. However, it will be important to incorporate some yin, earth energy into your environment. This is because with your instinctive need for mental stimulation, you may find it difficult to focus on any one subject long enough to know it in depth. Adding a small amount of earth energy elements to your environment will have the effect of grounding some of that restless energy you tend to have when Gemini is on the ascendant in your chart.
The area of your home to concentrate on when you make your yang enhancements is the Helpers/Travel area. It is located in the front right area (Western) or northwest side (Classical) of your home. This area represents concentrated yang energy. Its energetic element is metal. “Metal energy pertains to mental activity and thought processes”. (The Everything Feng Shui Book, p. 6) This area of your home, when energized with Feng Shui enhancements, will strengthen and reinforce environmental support for your curious and mobile intellect.

To activate yang energy, add objects made of metal or that have a metal decor accent to this area of your home. Examples include sculptures, metal picture frames and metal lamp bases. The colors associated with this area are the colors normally associated with metal. They are silver, gold, copper, and gray, including white and black. Use these colors for added yang energy.
Another way to activate this area is to display pictures of mentors, benefactors, or of people that help to motivate you. This will invite guidance and assistance into your life from others when you need their help. To energetically support you in your quest to learn and understand more about the world around you, display maps and pictures of places you would like to go to or have been.
Next, activate the Knowledge/Self-cultivation area of your home. It is located in the front left area (Western) or northeast side (Classical) of your home. The element for this area is earth. Activating this area supports your desire to acquire new knowledge. Because this area represents earth, it brings in just enough yin, grounding energy to your environment that, when activated, will keep some of your frenetic energy in check. This is necessary to keep you from feeling frazzled and strung out. Earth colors such as pale yellow, brown, and ochre, when used in this area, will help to ground you.

The Knowledge/Self-cultivation area of your home is associated with the spiritual aspiration symbology of mountains. A mountain represents “a place of meditation and enlightenment.” (Feng Shui Revealed, p. 62) Enlightenment comes when you increase your knowledge, understanding, and awareness of the universe. Meditation helps you to clear and refresh your mind. It helps you to access your inner guidance and get in touch with your authentic self. (feng shui your life, p. 143) The Knowledge/Self-cultivation area merges the intellect with the spirit and is therefore the perfect place to meditate in as well as to house your information resources.
Energizing this sector will support your desire to learn something new every day, and it will remind you to set time aside for quiet and contemplation. To this area, add items that are deep blue and green in color. Green signifies dynamic growth, an aspect of yang energy. Blue symbolizes resiliency and understanding and has aspects of both yin and yang energy depending on its intensity and hue. If you are so inclined, place an alter in this room to help with your meditation and spiritual practices. Any objects or depictions representing wisdom, knowledge, and contemplation are ideal for this location. Examples include books as well as pictures of mountains, gardens, beaches, and people you believe are wise. Crystals represent the earth element and, when placed in this area of your home, will activate its chi. Of course, designating this area as a place for books, technology and other educational materials is appropriate and helpful to its purpose as well. To keep this space energized, keep it free of clutter….no old newspapers or magazines piled up in corners, for example. This kind of clutter would only serve to increase mental clutter, escalating your feelings of restlessness and indecision.
After making these adjustments to the Helpers/Travel and Knowledge/Self-cultivation areas of your home, you will have supportive yang energy for your pursuit of factual knowledge of the physical world around you as well as supportive yin energy for contemplation and reflection.
Now to Gemini’s Shadow Self:
As with all signs, there is a shadow side that can come to the surface when you are feeling thwarted in the natural positive expression of that sign. With Gemini rising, your shadow side expresses itself as bored, restless, impatient, and critical. What makes you vulnerable to expressing your shadow self is mental stagnation and inactivity. These are the sources of your discontent.
A supportive environment for you is an ever-changing one that allows you plenty of freedom of movement both mentally and physically. It is one that allows for flexibility and spontaneity on when and how things get done. Therefore, it is best if you can make changes to your environment to allow for a regular and constant release of the inquisitive and lively energy that is instinctive to your Authentic Self.
The most effective change you can make to your environment when you feel discontented is to increase the flow of chi or energy by clearing physical clutter in your environment. The biggest factor that contributes to stagnating energy is physical clutter. Physical clutter is when there is too much unnecessary stuff and junk heaped in unorganized piles. This kind of clutter is the obstruction kind where you literally cannot move forward because of the clutter in your way. It stops the flow of energy, yours as well as the subtle energy that flows through your environment. It creates a physical blockage and a mental blockage. You feel impeded from energetically moving forward. Therefore, by removing clutter in your surroundings you will release the energy that has been restrained and allow it to flow forward.
Another form of clutter common for someone with many interests is mental clutter. This occurs when you have too much stimuli in your environment. Your home tends to be very eclectic, expressing those interests that you have now. There are many things that grab your interest and you like to have your information resources readily available to you. Examples here include books, research papers, notes, technology devices of all sorts, and other types of reference resources. Although your home should express your many interests, and be a place that provides the mental stimulation you require, too much stimulus can lead to confusion and have you moving in many directions at once. As a result, you are not able to focus on what to do or where to go next creating a scenario of either mental or physical chaos or both. Either your mind becomes over active and you are not able to think clearly, or your quick energy morphs into nervous energy and you are not able to complete the tasks you have started. Scattered thoughts and nervous tension inhibit your natural ability for adaptability and taking things in stride as you go about your day gathering and processing a great amount of information. Organizing the clutter that is representative of your many interests will help to provide you with a sense of control over your environment. It will facilitate your natural ability to multitask.
To make this task a little less overwhelming, start small and make it fun. Scan your environment and choose an area you would like to get started on, put on some music to get you going, set a time limit for yourself, and begin clearing out the clutter that no longer serves you. Each time you do this, you are opening space in your environment that, in turn, will facilitate the mental and physical mobility that is so crucial to the authentic expression of your Geminian nature.
You are learning about yourself through the reactions of and responses from others to your behavior as you go about your daily life. Their feedback to you regarding your actions will be either positive or negative. You will enjoy positive feedback from others when you operate from a “Let’s communicate!” approach. Whereas negative feedback can occur when you are contradictory, restless, or impatient with others. Regardless of the type of feedback, you will continue to grow, and your authentic self will continue to discover something new about itself.
