Pairing the Energy of Feng Shui with the Energy of Your Astrological Rising Sign

A guide to creating a home that expresses who you are and supports you energetically

If you have clicked on this website to see if you can find help with creating a home that expresses who you are more clearly, that supports you energetically, and that gives you a feeling of being in balance and in harmony with yourself and your surroundings, then you have come to the right place.  It is the intent of this website to show you a more transcendental approach that you can use when decorating your home using your personal horoscope and the principles of Feng Shui.

It is my belief that there is a natural synergy between the concepts of Feng Shui and Astrology that home decorators can tap into when decorating their homes.  Feng Shui is a philosophy of the movement of energy that shows us what in our environment we need to adjust, change, or enhance in order to create an environment that supports who we are.  Astrology helps us discover who we are.

Each sign in astrology has its own energetic signature.  By understanding the nature of each sign’s energetic signature and its effect on our approach to life instinctively, emotionally, and individually, we can harmonize the energy of who we are with our surroundings using the principles of Feng Shui.

Why I Focus on the Ascendant (Rising Sign)

I have chosen to focus on the signs of the ascendant initially for this website for several reasons:

  • The sign on the ascendant is the sign that best describes your personality identity.
  • This sign describes your instinctive, energetic approach to your everyday life.
  • It describes what your energetic needs are as you go out your front door and meet life and all its ups and downs.
  • It describes the image of you that others see when they first get to know you.
  • As you learn more about what the energetic needs are of your personality identity, your instinctive approach to the world around you, and the image you project to others; you will understand the necessity of aligning and harmonizing your environment to these needs.

By understanding more about yourself through your ascendant sign, you will be able to harmonize and balance the energy of that sign to your surroundings using the principles of Feng Shui.  In this way, you can support the energetic needs of your ascendant sign, which in turn, will energetically support you as you go about your day-to-day activities.

Features of the Ascendant and the First House

What is your authentic Self projecting to others in your environment?

The ascendant and the first house are synonymous terms and are used interchangeably in astrology texts. The sign on the first house is referred to as the rising sign.  This is because it is the sign on the eastern horizon at the time of your birth. (NOTE that we are referring to the rising sign and not the Sun sign).

While almost everyone knows their Sun sign, many with only a casual knowledge of astrology are not familiar with their rising sign. If you are unsure of your rising sign you should click on the button below to transfer to a site that will ask you to specify the date, time, and location of your birth and will then calculate your rising sign.

Each rising sign has characteristics unique to it that make up its energy signature.  The energy signature of your rising sign describes the energetic characteristics of your personality. These characteristics are what others observe when they first meet you.  They are your instinctive rather than conscious behaviors. The zodiac signs on and planets in your first house influence how you approach new situations and people instinctively, how you view the world, and how you meet life.  In other words, it is the identity that you and others recognize as your Authentic Self’s personality.

Overview of Feng Shui Principles

Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese practice of harmonizing and balancing the energy forces of our exterior surroundings with our inner selves. The words, Feng Shui, mean Wind and Water.  A foundational principle of Feng Shui is that there are energy forces, chi, that move like wind and water through our environment. Another foundational principle of Feng Shui is the movement (or lack of movement) of energy forces, chi, in your surroundings has the power to influence the way you think and feel and you have the ability to influence the movement of this energy in a purposeful way.

The aim of Feng Shui is to give practical advice to individuals on what remedies and/or enhancements to make in their surroundings to create an environment that energetically supports them mentally and emotionally.  There are nine main areas of life that Feng Shui targets to harmonize and balance. Each life area holds a different energy.  Therefore, the action you take to harmonize and balance an area must take into consideration the specific qualities of the energy of that area.

The tool used in Feng Shui to analyze and evaluate a space for energetic adjustments to these life areas is the Baqua Map, a visual tool that connects areas of your home (or office, apartment, or even an individual room) to specific areas of your life. It can be used to pinpoint area(s) to target for your desired life changes.  The Bagua Map divides your home into the following eight life areas:

  • Recognition, Respect, Reputation
  • Relationships, Marriage, Commitment
  • Creativity, Children
  • Helpful people, Mentors, Networking, Friends, Synchronistic order to life, Travel
  • Life’s purpose, Life’s journey, Career
  • Knowledge, Wisdom, Spirituality, Harmony
  • Family, Community, Health
  • Fortunate Blessings, Abundance, Wealth

The center of Bagua Map, linking these eight areas, affects the balance of life in general.  It is, therefore, also a powerful area for energetic support.

There are different schools of thought about the Bagua Map.  Two of the most common are:  the Classical (compass directions) Bagua Map and the Western (Black Sect Method) Bagua Map.  I include both of these in my Feng Shui suggestions. A summary of characteristics of each area for these two map types is presented through the links below.  Use the one you are most comfortable with.
