PISCES RISING

MOTTO:  Imagine Life!  Imagine Self!

With Pisces rising, you present an elusive, chameleon type of identity to others.  When you are feeling supported, you are compassionate, imaginative, selfless, and sympathetic to others in need.  When you are not feeling supported, you feel mystified by life.  Feelings of confusion and bewilderment set in.  When this happens, you are susceptible to being easily led, over-sensitive, and fickle.  The planetary ruler of Pisces is Neptune.  “In astrology, Neptune represents fantasy, dreams, and imagination.” (Web page: completehoroscope.org/Neptune) Neptune adds an otherworldly, mystical, and inspirational quality to your personality.  With Neptune directing your imagination, you create fantasy worlds.  It is to these fantasy worlds that you mentally escape when real life becomes too overwhelming for you. This “desire to escape from physical living can also be used constructively through creativity.” (A Spiritual Approach to Astrology, p.173)   Pisces is a water, mutable and yin sign.

The water element of this sign has a fluid, flowing and wavering effect on your instinctive, emotional behavior.  Subtle rather than intense, it is nevertheless as impactful on your energy levels as are the creeks and streams on their surroundings.  Yours is an emotional nature that is empathic. Like the absorbing and reflective nature of water, you absorb and reflect the feelings of others you come into close contact with.  For example, if you enter a room that is energized and the overall feeling you get when you enter is happy, you will feel yourself responding likewise.  However, if the energy of the room is low, lethargic, and depressed, your own mood will begin to spiral downward, even if you felt good coming in.

It is the mutable quality of Pisces‘ influence on your personality that gives you the ability and versatility to adapt to changes as they occur in your life.  The mutable signs represent the transition from one season to the next.  Therefore, with this mutable sign on your ascendant, you are inherently flexible and comfortable with change.  You have the ability to prepare others for change as well. As you go out to meet the day and all its activities, you do so by fitting yourself into whatever situation the day brings you.

The yin quality of Pisces influences your outward behavior toward others in a way that draws them in.  When you are feeling energetically good, you are perceptive, compassionate, comforting, and helpful in a gentle and congenial way with others.  You have an empathy for others and a desire to help them when they are in need.  Instinctively, you know what to say or what to do for others when they are experiencing troubles in their life. Social as well as compassionate, yours is not a solitary, indifferent, or shallow existence.

When you are not feeling good or emotionally supported by others, you can be self-pitying, self-destructive, clingy, and in self-denial…. all yin qualities. The responses you are likely to get from others when you behave in this manner will be unsupportive and can even be callous or unkind.  This then leads to feeling separated from the group when, ultimately, what you want to feel is a “oneness” with them.

With this combo of energies making up your Authentic Self’s personality expression, the image you present to others is someone who is elusive and undefinable, but at the same time is compassionate and selfless.  You present a wide-open, accepting of all people kind of approach when you go about your day-to-day activities.

Figuratively speaking, the energetic cloak you put on to interact with and meet the demands of the world around you is imaginative, fanciful, and chameleon-like.  Like your moods, the colors seem to dissolve into each other.  Able to sense what is beyond, you adapt its colors, i.e., your moods, accordingly.

It is from this supersensitive, chameleon nature, that your strengths and weaknesses originate.

Your strengths come out in your ability to adapt your emotional responses to the needs of the group.  When you are helpful, sympathetic, compassionate, and understanding, others will see you as someone who is charitable, attentive, and self-sacrificing.  Another strength of yours is your imagination and willingness to see life through magical, rose-colored lenses.  This is inspiring to others and they gravitate to you.  You will feel strengthened by their positive response to you. You feel emotionally up and energetic.

Your goodwill towards others is also your weakness because you are susceptible to all pleas of help and cannot say no, even when it is in your best interest to do so.  You can be gullible to sob stories and easily led by those who are less honorable than you. Also, because you cannot be everything to everyone (even though it is your inclination to try to be), you will come across as being unreliable, careless, and impractical, in other words, flaky, when you leave off helping one person to help another. This will give you a reputation for being weak-willed.  When you experience disapproval from others, you experience inner emotional turmoil.  Their disapproval or lack of enthusiasm towards you confuses and distresses you.  You feel emotionally down and lethargic.  You may find yourself consumed by inner doubts.

When feeling emotionally let down by the real world, your instinctive response is to escape and seek refuge.  This refuge can take the form of detaching mentally to your fantasy world of daydreams and imagination, immersing yourself in creative projects, or, less constructively, by means of using drugs or alcohol to escape from the harsh realities you are experiencing.

With Pisces rising, it may not be possible for you to prevent being duped by others or to shield yourself from sensing and absorbing negativity of others.  However, you can take Feng Shui steps to fortify the energy of your personal spaces to protect and strengthen the energetic expression of your authentic identity. By taking these steps, you will be setting the intention to take care of yourself with as much tender loving care as you do for the other people in your life.

Feng Shui Steps to Fortify the Pisces Energetic Signature:

To fortify the energetic needs of your Pisces personality, and to set the intention that you will take care of yourself as much as you do others, strengthen the energy of the area of your home that represents your life’s journey.  This area is called the Career/Life’s Journey area.  It is located in the front center (Western) or north (Classical) side of your home.  The energetic signature of this area is an exact match to your Pisces energetic signature.  Its energy is yin, its element is water, and its modality is mutability, i.e., adaptability.

The water element represents your feeling nature and your instinctive desire to go with the flow. The yin energy here corresponds to your intuitive, receptive, and compassionate nature. Change and adaptability are implied by the irregular and wavy shapes associated with this area.

This area represents how you steer your life’s path, i.e., your journey through life. It not only represents change and going with the flow, it is also represents sticking to your life’s purpose.  Whether this be a purpose to follow a certain career path or a more esoteric, spiritual purpose, this is the area to concentrate your Feng Shui efforts on.  When you do, you will be “setting a dynamic in your own life to keep yourself on track with your life’s purpose.” (Feng Shui Demystified, p. 78)

Rigid adherence to a certain path is not the goal here.  It is important to stay in touch with your feelings to let you know if the path you are on is good for you or not.  This will help you to connect with your intuition and let it guide you to know when it’s time to change directions.  Tuning in and listening to your intuition is one of your strengths.  Energetically fortifying the area of your home that represents your life’s journey will bolster this strength, as well. (Journey to Mastery, Feng Shui for Life, Chapter 1)

There are several steps to take to fortify and energize the Career/Life’s Journey area.  First, activate the water element.  A representation of flowing water here, such as a water fountain or pictures and photographs of water, will powerfully enhance the energetic intention to keep you on track with your life’s purpose and intention to connect to your intuition for guidance.  You do need to be careful of the type of representation of flowing water.  For example, pictures of meandering rivers represent water going somewhere with purpose but with the ability to adapt to changing environmental conditions whereas a picture of huge amounts of water such as an ocean or a waterfall represents too much emotional energy.  (Feng Shui Demystified, p. 78)

Next, enhance this area with the colors that energize it. The colors that will energize the purpose of the Career/Life’s Journey area are yin colors. These colors are black, dark blue and other very dark colors.  This doesn’t mean that the whole area must be only these colors.  But these colors should be present in one form or another, such as on an accent wall or in furnishings or other decorative items.

Wavy and free form shapes when placed in this area will strengthen your ability to remain flexible and adaptable to changing conditions. Finally, representations of your career choice are appropriate here.

Chaos is associated with the Pisces sign. This is depicted by the picture of two fishes used to describe this sign. Each fish is attempting to swim in opposite directions. This indicates there are two opposing directions from which to choose, thus creating a conflict of purpose, a dual desire nature for one with a Pisces ascendant (A Spiritual Approach to Astrology, pp. 171-172). The dual desires are the desire to follow life circumstances wherever they may lead you to and the desire to follow your own inner guidance.  One has to do with letting changes in the physical world control you and the actions you take and the other is to consciously identify with your spiritual desires, allowing your inner being to “filter “ out what will and what won’t help you to realize your full potential. (The Ascendant, Your Karmic Doorway, pp. 91-93) This dual nature gives rise to inner turmoil, chaos.  Chaos brings with it disorder and ambiguity.  An untidy, cluttered space outwardly reflects this.

With Pisces rising, you are not one to pay attention to the practicalities of life in general or to the tidiness of your personal space.  However, due to the dual nature of this sign, you like to have your space neat and clean.  Tidiness is your energetic friend and clutter is your enemy. Physical clutter in your surroundings has an insidious effect on your mental and emotional energy. It generates ambiguity and disorder in your environment, which in turn, exacerbates your vulnerability to feeling overwhelmed. It is mentally distracting and emotionally depleting.  For you, the distracting effect of clutter increases vagueness of thought, which in turn affects your ability to be discerning.     You have a need for an environment that is not chaotically inundated with clutter.

Therefore, the first step to creating an energetic supportive environment is to create an atmosphere of clarity and order by eliminating clutter.  Clutter is the stuff that is no longer used or loved by you and is just creating a mess in your home.  It is also stuff that makes you feel gloomy or discouraged, such as “unsuccessful projects, gloomy artwork, and disheartening books.”  (feng shui your life, pp.64-65

Once you have identified what is and what isn’t clutter, begin getting rid of the clutter.  Depending on how much you have, this can take a while. So, do as much as you can by concentrating on just one area at a time.  As you clear away the clutter, you will notice that you feel lighter and clearer of mind.  Clearing out the clutter will increase the energy flow of your space and simultaneously energize you.

Having an atmosphere that energetically makes the statement that calm and clarity abide here will help to offset the fluctuating and oftentimes confusing nature of everyday living.  When you come home feeling overwhelmed and exhausted, it will energetically strengthen you.

When you are feeling energetically strong, you are sociable, vivacious, and enjoy the good life.  But, when you have low vitality due to upset, confusion, or exhaustion, you can be easily led or deceived.  You can become lost in and overwhelmed by the emotional or situational problems of those close to you.  Feeling moody and distressed makes you vulnerable to worry, imagined fears and inner doubts.

Yours is a creative and spiritual nature.  It is important that you strengthen the areas of your home that correspond to creativity and spirtuality because by doing so, you will nurture the authentic expression of your Pisces rising sign.  In addition, it will serve to recharge your emotional batteries so that you are not as susceptible to worry, imagined fears and inner doubts.

Feng Shui Adjustments and Enhancements for Creativity and Spirituality:

The area of your home that corresponds to creativity is the Creativity/Children area.  It is located in the middle right (Western) or west (Classical) side of your home.  Energize this area to nurture your imagination, creativity, playfulness, spontaneity, and joy in everyday living.

Your first step is, of course, to eliminate the clutter in this area.  This includes any representations of discarded or disappointing projects and any pictures or photos that make you feel sad or unsupported.  Next, enhance this area with metal objects, creative projects you are working on, whimsical items, and healthy plants.  Objects that are round, oval, or arch shaped will enhance this area.  White, pastel, and metallic colors will energize this area’s purpose, as well.

One of the best ways to recharge your emotional batteries, when you have Pisces rising, is to take time for quiet solitude.  By taking yourself away from the chaos of the day to a place where there is peace and quiet, you are giving yourself the space to access your inner guidance and spiritual self to gain back control of your emotions, mind, and body.

In Feng Shui, the location to seek quiet solitude is the Knowledge/Self-cultivation area.  It is located in the front left (Western) or northeast (Classical) side of your home.  This area is used to promote and support spiritual and personal growth.

The colors to use to energize this area are blue, green, and earth tone colors. Earth is its element, so enhancing this area with items made of clay and stone is appropriate for anchoring you as you seek stillness and calm.  Water features are not recommended here because when earth and water are combined, they make mud.  The purpose of this area is to clear the clutter from your mind, not to muddy it further.

For clarity and meditation, enhance this area with pictures of mountains and of quiet places like gardens and beaches.  This is also an ideal location for a reading corner, a meditation area or an alter for clarity and meditation to help you reach your spiritual center (feng shui your life, pp.142-144; Feng Shui Demystified, pp.79-80; Journey to Mastery, Chapter 8).

As you go about your daily life, it is important that you protect yourself from overly identifying with others and their problems while at the same time allowing your compassionate, selfless, artistic nature its full expression.  By implementing the above Feng Shui suggestions, you will be aligning your Piscean energies with the energies of the space you inhabit.  This in turn will strengthen the positive expression of your Piscean personality and help you to cope with the unavoidable chaos and confusion that comes from your ability to absorb impressions, images, and emotions around you.

You are learning about yourself through the reactions of and responses from others to your behavior as you go about your daily life.  Their feedback to you regarding your actions will be either positive or negative.  You will enjoy positive feedback from others when you operate from a receptive, sympathetic, charitable and creative approach.  Whereas, negative feedback can occur when you are oversensitive, fickle, vague, or weak-willed.  Regardless of the type of feedback, you will continue to grow, and your authentic self will continue to learn something new about itself.
